Dear friends and well wishers,
Gana Unnayan Parshad (GUP), a registered Non-govt. Organisation, is now working in 7 districts namely Bankura, North-24-Parganas, Murshidabad, Dakshin Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Kolkata in West Bengal and West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand State for amelioration of the downtrodden people. GUP always give much importance on various social burning issues like how to safe-guard the human rights of the most marginalized people by implementing several flagship programmes of the Govt. and other donor agencies like Mother and Child Health Care programme through ASHAs, HIV/AIDS prevention programme among Truck Drivers and Helpers, Basic Education for all, Women empowerment and their development, Livelihood development of the street food vendors in Kolkata, Rehabilitation programme for the destitute women and children by running one Short Stay Home (Swadhar Greh) and managing one Open Shelter for 25 boys along with 3 outreach centers at three different places in KMC area under Integrated Child Protection Scheme of GoI. GUP has also been running two residential units for continuation of education of identified socio-economically disadvantaged 100 male students in each unit in Kolkata under Sarba Siksha Mission. Implementing Child labour eradication programme for 50 Child labour at Bagmari in Kolkata, running one Night Shelter for the homeless people in Kolkata, Networking programme for protection of Women Rights and PLWHIVAIDS and Self Help Group formation, organised skill development programme for economically poor rural women of identified blocks in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal and in Baharagora Block of Jharkhand State. Moreover, to sensitize the general masses on different burning issues of the society , GUP emphasized on organising seminars ,Capacity building training for the social activists, college students. A series of mass meeting, street corner meetings on different issues are organised in different corners of identified districts to create awareness among the people throughout the year. GUP also published several Leaflet, Pamphlet, Posters Booklets, educational games, Journals for awareness generation of the general masses during this span of time. A huge stock of these resources on different subjects/ issues are available with the organisation for further distribution and dissemination of information among the people in need. GUP also organised “Beti Bacho , Beti Padao” a most important flagship activity to protect disappearing Girl Children under the Banner of Save the Girl Children (PC&PNDT Act) in 14 municipalities of North-24-parganas district in West Bengal.
