INTRODUCTION

Gana Unnayan Parshad (GUP) , a non government voluntary organisation registered under West Bengal Societies Registration Act-1961, has been working for sustainable development of socio-economically disadvantaged people , especially for the women and children who are the poorest among the poor, since its inception in the year 1984. GUP has got a vast experience of working in close collaboration with both national and international organisations for comprehensive development of people through implementation of various schemes and programme initiated by the govt. and non-govt. funding agencies through the process of people’s participatory planning and action for development.

To instil a new sense of awakening and pride with a message of hope for Comprehensive Development in deprived and depressed class through the ideology of Khadi.

To raise the social consciousness of the people specially for the down-trodden of the society and to work for their comprehensive sustainable development through the ideas of “Khadi” and make them self-reliant in every aspects of life.

To make an egalitarian society where people will enjoy social and economic justice, freedom and democratic rights, meaningful co-existence with nature and environment and work for continuous nourishment of culture based on the respect for human values.

Objectives:

To assist the deprived and the backward people to be self-reliant through promotion of Khadi and Village Industries.
To promote Non-formal education and awareness to bring about change of the social system.
To promote awareness among women and increase the opportunities for them to become self dependent
To work for comprehensive health development and preservation of environment.
To remove superstition.
To organize para-legal training and legal aid for the needy and the oppressed and to promote consciousness about civic rights and duties.
To develop people’s initiative and power and employ the same for bringing about changes of the social system.
To develop opportunities for employment and minimum provisions of food, clothing and shelter.
To create employment opportunities for the people and work for their easy access to foods clothing and shelter which are basic minimum need for very survival of a person.
To promote national integration through attainment of equitable development of different weaker sections and communities.
To conduct Seminars, workshops, training camps etc. and publish books and pamphlets on relevant topics to help different youth groups, organizations and people to implement similar programmes in their areas.
